Ganus Family Loft - Breeding Loft

Ganus Family Loft is located in the northern part of Indiana, very near to the Indiana and Michigan border
and about 90 miles east of Chicago, Illinois.    We have 3 lofts  -  a breeding loft,  and old bird racing loft
and a youngbird racing loft - located on five acres of property.  The breeding loft pictured above measures
12 feet by 20 feet with a new 40 foot wing added to the back of the loft.  This section houses late hatch
youngsters that are allowed to fly.  The breeding
loft features individual breeding sections and
aviaries that the birds use throughout the year.
Our loft manager sees to the daily cleaning
of the lofts and the maintenance of the
   buildings.

The breeders are put together in late November.  This is after the birds are run through a medication
program that spans about three weeks and includes yearly vaccinations and preventative medications.
The loft pictured to the right is the youngbird loft that
I flew from when I raced here in the United States.  It
is a two story building with the bottom floor used for
storage and the top floor used for the youngbird race
      team.  A 20 ft. x 20 ft. x 10 ft. aviary has been added
where the birds can take their bath and just relax in
      the sun.

The old bird racing loft pictured to the left was
the first true European loft ever shipped to the
United States.  It measures 8 feet wide by 30
feet long.  It arrived in pre-assembled partitions
and was set on a platform three feet above the
ground to prevent dampness in the loft.  The
tile roof provides an excellent ventilation system
for the loft.  Floor heating pads are used to
control dampness and temperature in the loft.
In the ceiling are sliding panels that are opened
and closed to control the ventilation and temper-
ature of the loft.  Aviaries were recently added on each side for the breeders that are housed now in the
      loft.
